Another ranking recognizes UW Bothell value

best value college

The University of Washington Bothell has again been recognized as one of the best values in higher education.

SmartAsset, a New York-based financial technology company, recently ranked UW Bothell No. 2 on its list of Best Value Colleges in the state of Washington. The University of Washington’s Seattle campus was No. 1 and UW Tacoma was No. 3.

The ranking mirrored the recent rating by CNBC Make It, which listed UW Bothell No. 2 nationally on its list of top 10 U.S. public colleges that pay off the most.

“We are honored, once again, to be recognized for the value of a UW Bothell education,” said Chancellor Wolf Yeigh. “The strength behind the numbers is the academic expertise of our faculty, the welcoming atmosphere for diverse students and the opportunity for mentoring relationships between faculty and students.

“We know prospective students check rankings, and we believe they’ll see why UW Bothell is a top choice.”

SmartAsset looked at five factors to determine the best value: tuition, student living costs, scholarship and grant offerings, retention rate and starting salary. The ranking drew on information from sources that include Payscale, the National Center for Education Statistics and Peterson’s Undergraduate Financial Aid and Undergraduate Databases.

On its website, SmartAsset features calculators, such as a student loan calculator, to help people make financial decisions. It also offers tools for taxes, home buying and retirement.

Here are some of the figures SmartAsset used in ranking UW Bothell:

  • Average scholarships and grants: $13,048
  • Average starting salary: $58,200
  • College tuition: $10,690
  • Student living costs: $15,447
  • Student retention rate: 88%
