Stay Connected Beyond Commencement

Published: June 12, 2015

More than 1,700 UW Bothell Huskies will be updating their resumes with shiny new degrees and certificates after the 24th Commencement Ceremony this Sunday, June 14th. Exchanging professors for supervisors and homework for paychecks, these grads will be using the skills gained in the classroom to excel in the much anticipated “real-world.” Although their time as students may be coming to an end, the benefits of a UW Bothell education can continue. Graduates can remain connected to UW Bothell and the entire University of Washington community by becoming members of the UW Alumni Association (UWAA).

“When you include the Class of 2015, UW Bothell’s alumni total more than 15,000,” says the Director of Alumni Engagement, Sean Marsh. “Many of this year’s graduates have already joined the UWAA. We encourage all of our graduates to stay connected with UW Bothell, network with alumni from all three campuses and enjoy member benefits and special discounts at local restaurants, museums, hotels and sporting events.” Members also have borrowing privileges to the University’s libraries, networking opportunities with other career-driven alumni, and several opportunities each year to travel the world with other UWAA members.

Mary Howisey (IAS ’02) serves on UW Bothell’s Alumni Council as the alumni relations chair. “Some alumni are interested in the library and online journal benefits, while others are interested in the networking opportunities.” Through the Husky Career Network, alumni members have connections to volunteers that help them explore different careers and companies, they also have full access to events held by the Career Center. “There are so many fabulous events and lectures to take part in! I think my favorite benefit is getting 10% off just about everything at the Bookstore,” says Howisey.

Marsh plans exclusive events for UW Bothell members each year, allowing them to reconnect with former peers while having fun and raising money for student scholarships. “The feeling of giving back to the institution, joining an organization that helps current UW Bothell students, and strengthens the overall alumni community gives graduates a ‘pay it forward’ feeling that is rewarding and long lasting.”
