It’s official: CUSP is now the First Year and Pre-Majors Program. The new name reflects a program that has tremendous impact on student success in their first two years at UW Bothell. The program is devoted to helping students transition into academic life at UW Bothell by helping them navigate through their first two years, which can be both exciting and overwhelming. Through the First Year and Pre-Majors Program, new students gain confidence in their academic skills and their sense of belonging among their peers and the university.

As first-years, students will be offered classes in the Discovery Core Series that will challenge them to gain a deeper understanding of inclusive practices, social responsibility, and much more. What students learn through this program can inspire positive change. Omair Kahn (IAS ’13) convinced the university to supply fair trade coffee on campus after being inspired in the “Media and Coffee Culture” class offered through Discovery Core.

After completing their first year, students transition to the Pathways to Academic Engagement in their sophomore, or pre-major, year. The Pathways program connects second year students to career development, community involvement, and other opportunities that will allow them to achieve success at UW Bothell and beyond.
