In early November, Justin Nygard, the new ASUWB Director of Government Relations, visited Chinese 101 and inspired Biang Biang Mianhis fellow students with his vivid and moving account of life-changing experiences and his “sentimental education” in China.

During the first week of fall quarter, Chancellor Yeigh proudly stood in front of his first class at UW Bothell. The pride stemmed from being in the same room with students who have served in the nation’s armed forces, and from the fact that he is one of them.

Former UW Bothell board member Bob Craves has died at the age of 72. Craves served on the UW Bothell Higher Education Board from 2005-2006 and was an early advocate to establish the University of Washington Bothell.

A recent Money magazine study measured 665 colleges on numerous measures including career earnings. UW Bothell ranked number one in the state of Washington, and our success is partly due to the high impact experiences offered through the Career Services department on campus.

UW Bothell co-hosted the first Sally Ride Science Festival in the Pacific Northwest. Organizers and 100 volunteers set the stage for more than 500 attendees – mostly girls – to engage in two dozen workshops and 30 exhibits.

Two new schools have been named at the University of Washington Bothell, completing the transition of all of its academic programs to schools. The Nursing and Health Studies Program is now the School of Nursing and Health Studies, and the Education program is now the School of Educational Studies. The move becomes effective September 16.

While most graduates donned their caps, gowns and academic stoles at UW Bothell's 23rd Annual Commencement Ceremony, student veteran association president Michael Thom and more than 30 other graduates wore a brand new stole specially designed for our military veterans.

Thirty-four graduating veterans were recognized during the Challenge Coin Ceremony held June 4 on the UW Bothell campus. Graduates received a coin in appreciation for their military service and their contributions as a student.

Students, faculty and staff may now recycle small electronics on campus, thanks to a new partnership between UW Bothell and Waste Management. Items that can be recycled include printer cartridges and small electronics including mp3 players, phones, cameras and laptops. Bins are located in UW1 and UW2.
