Record Number of UW Bothell Undergraduate Students Awarded Mary Gates Scholarships

Students at the University of Washington Bothell have developed a reputation for exceptional scholarship in a variety of disciplines. As the campus expands to include more majors and fields of study, the quantity and quality of innovative student research expands along with it. In the fall quarter, a record six UW Bothell students were awarded Mary Gates Scholarships.

Mary Gates Research Scholarships are competitive scholarships intended to enhance the educational experiences of undergraduate students at the University of Washington while they are engaged in research guided by faculty. The following UW Bothell students were awarded for their research in both science and the humanities:

Bren Hammond, BSN student, was awarded a Mary Gates Leadership Scholarship for her demonstrated leadership skills. These scholarships encourage undergraduate students to develop leadership abilities through practical experience, personal reflection and in community with mentors and peers.

The Mary Gates Endowment expands opportunities for undergraduates by providing scholarships that require students to articulate their goals, identify mentors, reflect on their experiences, and actively engage in their own learning processes.
