Orientation sessions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Summer Bridge Week<\/strong>: A one-week immersive program from August 9 \u2013 14, 2026.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Year One<\/strong>: Strengths-based skill building, complete prerequisites, STARS Seminar, career readiness, and wrap around support in courses through advising, tutoring, and peer mentors.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Year Two<\/strong>: Continue to take prerequisites, project-based STARS seminars, career prep, and apply into major.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Transition into your major<\/strong>: You\u2019ll graduate from the program and continue into your major.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"benefits\">Program benefits<\/h2>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"eligibility\">Am I eligible?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>You are eligible if you:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Are a first-year student admitted to UW Bothell<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Are a Washington resident<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have fewer than 45 transferable college credits<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Need to take Calculus I in college<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have a strong interest in technology or engineering majors<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Can attend Summer Bridge and school-year programming<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A quick note on eligibility<\/strong>: Open to all students, the STARS Program is committed to broadening and enhancing access for all students, including women, people of color, first-gen, or low-income who wish to pursue careers in technology and engineering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"admissions\">Admissions (step-by-step)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>No separate application<\/strong>: Just list a technology major (see list below) on your Common App. If you\u2019re a Washington State resident, you\u2019ll automatically be considered for STARS.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The review<\/strong>: We will review your application materials to ensure you meet the program requirements and demonstrate a strong interest in pursuing tech &amp; engineering.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Keep an eye on your portal<\/strong>: If you\u2019re selected, your STARS invitation will show up alongside your UW Bothell admission decision in your Applicant Status Portal.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/urldefense.com\/v3\/__https:\/\/admissions.uwb.edu\/register\/stars-2026__;!!K-Hz7m0Vt54!nBYCJX-v6-x9OVcarNUOEw9F-xKY6Q_ajTbWO0x6yhiWcOGjcnsepYsyCNeBV6zcTgdiEJRQ4trtDiI$\"><strong>Confirm your spot<\/strong><\/a>: Say \u201cYES\u201d to STARS by May 1 (priority deadline) or May 17 (final deadline).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Current supported majors:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Applied Computing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Business: Management Information Systems (MIS)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Computer Engineering<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Computer Science<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Data Visualization<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Electrical Engineering<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mathematics<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mechanical Engineering<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A quick note on competitive majors<\/strong>: Computer Science and Computer Engineering are competitive to enter. STARS students begin as pre-majors and receive personalized, holistic support to help them prepare a strong application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Costs &amp; funding<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Being a STARS scholar does not add any additional costs. STARS seminar courses are part of your full-time credit load, and events like Summer Bridge, community socials, and Tech Trek are fully covered by STARS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Summer Bridge<\/strong>: All costs, including meals and housing, are covered except for parking.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Program fees<\/strong>: All courses fit into the full-time credit load of 12\u201318 credits. There are no additional fees for being in the program.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Housing<\/strong>: Housing is the only cost we are unable to support at this time.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Financial aid<\/strong>: Admitted students who submit a FAFSA and are invited to join the STARS Program will automatically be considered for the BETS Scholarship. I think there have been many opportunities I\u2019ve gotten in the STARS program, and the community that STARS have built has been one of my favorite things. The community building and the cohort experience with having others you know in courses and on campus helps you build a closer bond and relationship with those around you. One piece of advice I have for students is to talk to your advisor and go out of your way to meet with them. The first time I met with the cohort, everyone was super nice to me and contributed a lot to the current positive environment we have now at STARS. Being involved with STARS, especially being a program assistant and working with the program, doing events, and building projects has helped me build connections with my peers. It also helped me build my skills for the future. One piece of advice for students is to check Discord often because there\u2019s a lot of events and information being posted which is important to check.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2014 <strong>Jenn
