As a Mathematics major, you will already be completing the <strong>Natural Science (NSc)<\/strong> and <strong>Reasoning (R) <\/strong>requirements by taking your prerequisite and core courses, but make sure to plan for completion of the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>English Composition (C) <\/strong>&#8211; 5 credits (<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/students\/crscatb\/bwrit.html#bwrit134\">BWRIT 134<\/a><\/strong> recommended)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Additional Writing (W)<\/strong> &#8211; 10 credits (consider <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/students\/crscatb\/bwrit.html#bwrit135\">BWRIT 135<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/students\/crscatb\/bst.html#bst301\">BST 301<\/a><\/strong>, and\/or <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/students\/crscatb\/css.html#css301\">CSS 301<\/a><\/strong>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Diversity (DIV) <\/strong>&#8211; 5 credits (almost always also fulfills A&amp;H or SSc)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Arts &amp; Humanities (A&amp;H) <\/strong>&#8211; 15 credits (cannot overlap with SSc)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Social Sciences (SSc)<\/strong> &#8211; 15 credits (cannot overlap with A&amp;H)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>In general, these general education courses <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">can overlap<\/span><\/strong> with the Elective courses for your major.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"core\">Core course requirements<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A minimum grade of 2.0<\/strong> is required in each of the following ten core courses. STMATH 392 may be taken for elective credit even if you have already taken one of STMATH 341 or 390.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>**<\/strong> <strong>STMATH 381 and STMATH 405<\/strong> <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">can<\/span><\/strong> both be taken for credit, with one counting as the core requirement and the other as an elective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"electives\">Elective courses<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You must complete <strong>five additional STMATH courses (25 credits)<\/strong> that meet the following criteria. All courses are 5 credits unless otherwise noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>300-level or higher<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Minimum grade of 2.0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>At least <strong>three courses (15 credits) <\/strong>must be from the list of <strong>Advanced Electives<\/strong> (first list below), and at least one of these three courses must itself have a 400-level STMATH course as a prerequisite (indicated with a star &#8211;
