The committee uses a holistic approach when reviewing applications, evaluating each on its individual merit and making decisions on a case-by-case basis. Our goal is to admit students who will benefit from the program, contribute to our community of learning, and move on to make positive impacts after graduation. In making its decision, the committee considers the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Completion of prerequisite courses<\/strong>. Decisions are not made until the committee receives final grades for all prerequisite courses.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Academic performance<\/strong>, including overall GPA and improvements over time, grades in prerequisites and other relevant courses (such as mathematics and other quantitative areas), and the number of repeated courses.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Personal statement<\/strong>, which can highlight:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Your specific interest in this program at the University of Washington Bothell.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your long-term goals and the steps you have already taken to achieve them.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your unique experiences and skills that will help you succeed in the program and beyond.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Any challenges or hardships you have faced, and how you approached and learned from them.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"prerequisites\">Prerequisite courses<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Minimum grades. <\/strong>To be considered for admission, complete the courses below with a minimum grade of <strong>2.0 or higher in all courses<\/strong>. The grades must be recorded on your <strong><a href=\"#materials\">unofficial or official transcript(s)<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Transfer courses. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uwb.edu\/stem\/undergraduate\/resources\/stem-transfer-courses\">View a compilation of equivalent courses<\/a><\/strong> at other UW campuses and Washington state colleges, as well as <strong>important notes on transferring courses<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>English composition I<\/strong> (1 quarter or 1 semester)\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Must cover content equivalent to UW Bothell\u2019s <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/students\/crscatb\/bwrit.html#bwrit134\">BWRIT 134<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>One-year calculus series<\/strong> (3 quarters or 2 semesters)\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Must cover content equivalent to UW Bothell\u2019s <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/students\/crscatb\/stmath.html#stmath124\">STMATH 124, 125, 126 series<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Differential Equations<\/strong> (1 quarter or 1 semester)\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Must cover content equivalent to UW Bothell\u2019s <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/students\/crscatb\/stmath.html#stmath207\">STMATH 207<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Multivariable Calculus<\/strong> (1 quarter or 1 semester)\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Must cover content equivalent to UW Bothell\u2019s <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/students\/crscatb\/stmath.html#stmath224\">STMATH 224<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Calculus-based physics I and II<\/strong> (2 quarters or 2 semesters)\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Must cover content equivalent to UW Bothell\u2019s <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/students\/crscatb\/bphys.html#bphys121\">BPHYS 121 and 122<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The third course in the series, BPHYS 123 (Waves) can be useful to take, but is not required for the major.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>General chemistry I with lab<\/strong> (1 quarters or 1 semester)\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Must cover content equivalent to UW Bothell\u2019s <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/students\/crscatb\/bchem.html#bchem143\">BCHEM 143 and 144<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>One-year Introductory Mechanical Engineering series<\/strong> (3 quarters or 2 semesters)\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Must cover content equivalent to UW Bothell\u2019s <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/students\/crscatb\/bme.html#bme221\">BME 221, 222, 223 series<\/a><\/strong> (Statics, Mechanics of Materials, Dynamics).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"statement\">Personal statement<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Visit our <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uwb.edu\/stem\/personal-statement-guidelines\">Personal Statement Guidelines<\/a><\/strong> page for advice on writing an exceptional personal statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Prompt<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Your personal statement should be no longer than 650 words and answer both questions below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Describe one or two of your core values. Make sure to include an adequate description of experiences that have helped you form and test those values.
