{"id":3672,"date":"2018-01-02T14:58:48","date_gmt":"2018-01-02T14:58:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.uwb.edu\/?p=3672"},"modified":"2025-04-11T09:34:28","modified_gmt":"2025-04-11T16:34:28","slug":"global-health-promotion-in-guatemala","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.uwb.edu\/nhs\/news\/2018\/01\/02\/global-health-promotion-in-guatemala","title":{"rendered":"Guatemala Summer Quarter 2018"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/global-health-promotion-in-guatemala.jpg\" alt=\"global health promotion in guatemala\" class=\"wp-image-28823\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Study Abroad Guatemala Summer 2018<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Global Health Promotion in Guatemala: Health Services Delivery in Resource Poor Settings<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>June 18-August 17, 2018<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>School of Nursing &amp; Health Studies is offering a summer study abroad program in Guatemala that is especially designed for MN, BSN and NHS students. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span>Guatemala is the most populous country in Central America. It is home to over 15 million people and more than half of the population is below the national poverty line. Guatemala faces several health and development challenges, including infant, child, and maternal mortality, malnutrition, literacy, and contraceptive awareness and use. It is also rich in cultural diversity. This program aims to expose students to global development, health systems, global health issues and health care delivery in resource-strapped communities. The course utilizes the community as the pedagogical platform and challenges students to view global health care issues holistically in order to understand how in-country health policies are influenced by local and global determinants.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span>The program runs June 18th through August 17th (full Summer term). It begins at UW Bothell with travel to Guatemala occurring July 27th through August 11th. Students will earn 12 credits, including required and elective courses for the MN, BSN and NHS programs. Students will not pay summer quarter tuition, instead there is a $4,550 program fee that includes housing, meals, activities and local transportation in Guatemala. <\/span><span><a href=\"\/connected-learning\/global\/abroad\/featured\/guatemala-summer\">Applications are now open<\/a> and the priority application deadline is January 31st.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The UW Bothell Study Abroad Scholarship is available and students are encouraged to apply.
