Hands-on, reflective, skill-building opportunity for students to engage with community projects<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As a Health Studies major<\/strong>, you will participate in community-engaged learning though the Fieldwork in Health<\/strong> course during your final year. This community-based experience complements your Health Studies coursework by giving you the opportunity to apply what you have learned in real-world settings and deepen your understanding of health at the population and community levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With guidance from faculty, staff, and the School\u2019s Fieldwork Program Manager, you will explore a professional role in a health field that interests you, connect with a community organization, and apply your knowledge and skills to meaningful work beyond the classroom. Fieldwork also provides an opportunity to reflect on how your academic experiences have prepared you to contribute to the health field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Through fieldwork, you will build connections with local communities and organizations while developing the knowledge, skills, and experiences to prepare for your future in health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“In Health Studies Fieldwork, I worked with Neighborhood House at the Firwood Circle Facility in Auburn. The building was located in a neighborhood where the youth were underserved and the staff there provided resources as well as after school care for many of the youth. At Neighborhood House, I assisted in supporting the youth with their homework, and also designed and created a lesson teaching them about pandemics. Overall, it was a wonderful experience learning how to connect with a different audience that I wasn’t used to. That opportunity allowed me to work with Dr. Jody Early which led me to the ERASMUS Grant to study public health in Ireland.”<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
