Students will understand the policies and systems that shape our healthcare practices and acquire the skills to understand and critique health research at the population level. Please note that some courses may have pre-requisites that students will need to include in their graduation plan.<br> <br> <strong>Required Health Studies core courses, 10 credits:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>BHS 201 Introduction to Public Health<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>BHS 302 Social Dimensions of Health<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ONE of the following research courses for 5 credits:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>BHS 300 Principles of Health Research*<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>BIS 312 Approaches to Social Research<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>BES 301 Science Methods and Practice<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>BNURS 460 Translating Scholarly Knowledge to Nursing Practice<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>15 credits of approved <a href=\"\/nhs\/undergraduate\/health-studies\/overview\/hs-electives\">Health Studies Elective<\/a> courses.<\/strong> Of these 15 credits, a minimum of 5 credits must be completed with a BHS or B HLTH prefix.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>*BHS 210 (Community Health Promotion &amp; Communication) is a pre-\/co-requisite to BHS 300. If you would like to pursue a pre-requisite exception request, please contact the Health Studies Academic Advisor, Kaitlin Wolf (wrightkr@uw.edu).<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Course petitions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are interested in petitioning a course to satisfy a requirement in the Health Studies minor, please connect with the Health Studies Academic Advisor Kaitlin Wolf (<a href=\"mailto:wrightkr@uw.edu\">wrightkr@uw.edu<\/a>) to learn more about the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Course petitions are reviewed by the Health Studies Curriculum Committee during the Autumn, Winter, and Spring quarters. Note: petitions are NOT reviewed during Summer quarters. All petitions must be submitted <strong>by the 6th week of the quarter<\/strong> in order to be reviewed and processed prior to the end of the quarter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Questions?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Interested students should review the minor requirements and declare the minor as early as possible.
