{"id":13655,"date":"2018-08-07T13:51:10","date_gmt":"2018-08-07T13:51:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.uwb.edu\/?p=13655"},"modified":"2025-08-12T11:58:46","modified_gmt":"2025-08-12T18:58:46","slug":"gh-requirements","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.uwb.edu\/nhs\/undergraduate\/global-health-minor\/gh-requirements","title":{"rendered":"Requirements"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Students are required to complete a total of 25 credits (shown below).  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Required Global Health core courses, 15 credits:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>B HLTH 201 (Introduction to Global Health) &#8211; offered Autumn<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>B HLTH 301 (Global Health Practice: Systems, Places, and People) &#8211; offered Winter<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>B HLTH 423 (Global Health: Critical Perspectives) &#8211; offered Spring<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>While it is recommended that students take these courses in the order listed above, it is not a requirement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>10 credits of approved<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uwb.edu\/nhs\/undergraduate\/global-health-minor\/gh-electives\"> Global Health Minor Elective<\/a> courses.<\/strong> Students must take at least 5 credits from two of the following three categories:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Core topics in global health<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Populations, regions, &amp; issues<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Skills &amp; applications<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Students are eligible to use up to 5 credits of electives for language study or for BHLTH 400: Study Abroad: Health Studies. Credit for other study abroad programs can be proposed through the course petition process (see below).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Students may not have more than 10 credits of overlap between this minor and their chosen major.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Class schedule<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The minor courses are typically offered once in an academic year.  Please check in with the Health Studies Academic Advisor Kaitlin Wolf (<a href=\"mailto:wrightkr@uw.edu\">wrightkr@uw.edu<\/a>) if you have questions regarding your minor schedule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Course petitions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are interested in petitioning a course to satisfy a requirement in the Global Health minor, please connect with the Health Studies Academic Advisor Kaitlin Wolf (<a href=\"mailto:wrightkr@uw.edu\">wrightkr@uw.edu<\/a>) to learn more about the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Course petitions are reviewed by the Health Studies Curriculum Committee during the Autumn, Winter, and Spring quarters. Note: petitions are NOT reviewed during Summer quarters.
