Senior Lecturer

Ritchie teaches Finance, Economics and Corporate Strategy to undergraduate and graduate students at UWB’s Business School ( 2009-current). Prior, he served as CEO of a bioenergy company (with Berkeley School), Chief Business Officer at a Medical Device Company, CEO and Board Member of other emerging companies, Head of Strategy and Financial Planning at Premera, Government Affairs at AT&T Wireless, Head of Rate setting at Washington Natural Gas, and primary consultant to Verizon, Sprint and other large utility companies. Prior, he served as Assistant Professor at the UW’s Graduate School of Business (Foster) where he taught Financial Economics to PhD students and Corporate Finance to MBAs. Teaching awards at both campuses.


Scholarship

As a graduate student and Huebner Fellow at the Wharton School, Ritchie studied finance, economics, statistics, insurance and healthcare. He wrote a foundational paper, “The Demand for Life Insurance: An Application of the Economics of Uncertainty,” Journal of Finance, Dec. 1980,” which became an essential  building block for subsequent research papers, resulting in over 280 citations. Later, serving as the primary consultant to billion-dollar utilities, Ritchie testified before large Regulator Commissions as an expert witness on matters of finance and economics.  He is an expert in the determination of product/service prices, and the estimation of demand, revenues and costs.
