Kristina Mayer, Ed. D.

Kristina Mayer is a specialist in the fields of philanthropy and education. She leads the KLMayer Consulting Group, helping leaders build organizational capacity and focus on results. She teaches leadership, management and fundraising in the Nonprofit Certificate Programs on two UW campuses.  Recently, she joined the Nursing and Health Studies faculty at UW Bothell.
Dr. Mayer was a program officer for nearly a decade at both the Stuart Foundation and the Washington Mutual Foundation. Prior to that, she spent 20 years working in education as an advocate, teacher and principal.
In 2006, Governor Gregoire appointed Dr. Mayer to the Washington State Board of Education where she has been a thought-leader on accountability, graduation requirements and English language learning.  She completed her term in 2015.

Kristina's scholarly interests and practice are at the intersection of the literature, practice and policy; delving into the ways a well-structured and enacted policy framework enables informed practice.   She has co-created the Center for Strengthening the Teaching Profession, a nonprofit whose mission is to promote exemplary teaching, teacher leadership and teacher voice in Washington State.  She also co-created the public private partnership enabling the Washington Initiative for National Board Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) to encourage highly accomplished K-12 educators to demonstrate high and rigorous standards through earning an advanced teaching credential.  Washington now has the fourth largest group of NBCTs in the nation.

Kristina's practice has also focused on building capacity in the nonprofit sector to strengthen local communities.  She  brings a depth of knowledge and first-hand experience having founded a local community foundation, served on regional and national professional association boards for philanthropic organizations as well as being a charter member of the National Network of Consultants to Grantmakers.
