Bandanas connect students with farmworkers

During her working life, a woman has a 50 percent chance of being sexually harassed on the job, but for women farmworkers the figure is closer to 80 percent, says Victoria Breckwich Vasquez, assistant professor in the School of Nursing and Health Studies at University of Washington Bothell. Women farmworkers are more vulnerable to the unwelcome advances of male supervisors and managers because the women may not speak English and they’re likely dependent on the farm for transportation and housing.

Amazon selects self-driving bike for $75K grant

Amazon has decided to award $75,000 to support the research of University of Washington Bothell Affiliate Professor Tyler Folsom who is developing a self-driving tricycle. Folsom says the money will fund student interns over the next year as they work on the Elcano Project.

Suburban schools: Public education frontier

While some might argue suburbs have been lucky to avoid battles over education policy, teacher strikes and state interventions, many suburbs are economically distressed and not well equipped to handle new challenges associated with disadvantaged students. A Center on Reinventing Public Education report cites data from the Highline and Kent districts to suggest how suburban leaders can address rapid population changes.
