\n\tUW Bothell Professor Scott Kurashige elected president of American Studies Association<\/p>\n

\n\tBOTHELL, Washington — University of Washington Bothell Professor Scott Kurashige<\/a> has been elected president of the American Studies Association<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\n\tA national associated based in Washington, D.C., the ASA promotes interdisciplinary research on U.S. culture and history. It supports scholars committed to original research, critical thinking and public dialogue. <\/p>\n

\n\tKurashige will serve as president-elect for a year starting July 1, followed by one year as president beginning July 1, 2019. The election is a recognition of UW Bothell’s growing reputation, especially its commitment to diversity, interdisciplinary education and socially engaged scholarship, Kurashige said.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe ASA’s trust in Kurashige is well-placed and an honor for UW Bothell, said Chancellor Wolf Yeigh.<\/p>\n

\n\tKurashige is faculty in the School of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences. Some classes he has taught include Introduction to Asian-American Studies, and Diversity, Leadership and Engagement. He researches 20th and 21st century American history, urbanism and social movements from the vantage points of black and Asian-American studies. Kurashige is the author of two books, most recently “The Fifty-Year Rebellion: How the U.S. Political Crisis Began in Detroit” (University of California Press, 2017).<\/p>\n
