{"id":28737,"date":"2023-07-27T16:27:18","date_gmt":"2023-07-27T23:27:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.uwb.edu\/news\/?p=28737"},"modified":"2023-07-31T14:08:10","modified_gmt":"2023-07-31T21:08:10","slug":"uw-bothell-announces-director-for-center-for-biotechnology-innovation-training","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.uwb.edu\/news\/2023\/07\/27\/uw-bothell-announces-director-for-center-for-biotechnology-innovation-training","title":{"rendered":"UW Bothell announces director for Center for Biotechnology Innovation &amp; Training\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\">The University of Washington Bothell has named Dr. Guy Hamilton as director for the new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uwb.edu\/stem\/research\/cbit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Center for Biotechnology Innovation &amp; Training<\/a>, effective Sept. 5, 2023.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hamilton is currently the executive dean of Workforce &amp; STEM at Shoreline Community College, where he helped develop biotech programming for high school and post-baccalaureate students in collaboration with regional biotech companies. He also has played a leadership role on collegewide initiatives there, including serving as chair of the Faculty Senate, chair of the Strategic Planning and Budget Committee and interim vice president for instruction.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am honored to join UW Bothell as the first director of CBIT,\u201d Hamilton said. \u201cThe Puget Sound region is currently experiencing a rapid expansion in the biotechnology sector unlike any time in the past 25 years. A significant portion of this expansion is focused in the Bothell\/Canyon Park\/Redmond area with companies such as AGC Biologics, Bristol Myers Squibb, Just EvoTec and Seagen, creating a tremendous opportunity for UW Bothell and CBIT to become a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uwb.edu\/news\/2022\/11\/18\/uw-bothell-opens-center-for-biotechnology-innovation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hub for research and workforce development programs<\/a> that support the needs of the industry.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI can\u2019t wait to work with the faculty and staff at UW Bothell to develop transformative educational pathways that create opportunities for our students in Biotechnology.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hamilton received his Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from Indiana University and his doctorate in Biology from the University of Oregon. He was a post-doctoral scholar at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle.
