\n\tUW Bothell helping to bring Seattle CityClub boot camp to Everett neighborhood to focus on community health<\/p>\n
\n\tBOTHELL, Washington – The University of Washington Bothell and the WSU Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine are helping the Providence Institute for a Healthier Community and Seattle CityClub take its Civic Boot Camp program on the road to Everett.<\/p>\n
\n\tThe first boot camp was held Sept. 16 and another will be held on Oct. 21, focusing on community health, specifically in the historical and ethnically diverse Hawthorne neighborhood where a transformation is underway.<\/p>\n
\n\tThe day includes a walking tour, presentations from Providence and UW Bothell researchers, discussions with community leaders and civic action plan workshops.<\/p>\n
\n\t“The discussions are intended to bring further visibility to the array of factors that influence a community’s health, and to foster civic health and engagement by connecting participants across professional, cultural and political spectrums to build leadership, cooperation and support,” says Scott Forslund, executive director of Providence Institute for a Healthier Community and director of the Snohomish County Health Leadership Coalition.<\/p>\n
\n\tForslund says the partnership effort between the Institute and CityClub has benefited from significant work by Jody Early, a co-chair of the AimWell Center for Health Priorities & Progress at the Institute. Early is an associate professor in the UW Bothell School of Nursing & Health Studies who is one of two UW Bothell presenters at the Everett event.<\/p>\n
\n\tA Civic Boot Camp is a full-day experience giving participants knowledge about a community’s history and current affairs, providing access to leaders and building skills to make a difference. Other boot camps have focused on the Seattle waterfront and the South Lake Union neighborhood.<\/p>\n
