Sharing the discoveries, research and creative pursuits of faculty members is daily work on any university campus. Each fall in the University of Washington Bothell & Cascadia College Campus Library<\/a>, however, the library staff also creates a special display to showcase some of the most recent work by faculty \u2014 and some staff and students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s great to feature the research and creative projects that our faculty and staff have worked on, and I hope that it gives people some pride,\u201d said Hannah Mendro, materials processing lead, of the annual and eclectic display of publications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI also hope that it brings recognition to the faculty work and shows that there are many different works being done by different people. Plus,\u201d she added, \u201cit is so cool to see a scientific article right next to a poem \u2014 it shows the breadth of research taking place in our community.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Normally, the display includes only work published from the year prior. Because the library was closed during remote operations for about 18 months, this year\u2019s display also includes books, chapbooks, journal articles, art catalogs and other works published in both 2019 and 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many of the pieces, in fact, delve into what life is like during a pandemic. Dr. Ching-In Chen, assistant professor in the School of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences, wrote the poem \u201cDear O,\u201d for example, which explores the impact of isolation and how to find connection in a time of struggle. \u201cIt also explores difficulty with lineage and inheritance, especially around gender expectations,\u201d Chen said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Dan Berger, associate professor in the School of IAS, also wrote about COVID-19, taking a social justice approach researching the problems pandemics pose for incarcerated people and prisons. \u201cWhile Washington state has ostensibly abolished the death penalty, its approach to incarceration now puts thousands of people at risk \u2014 in and out of prison \u2014 of a most painful and preventable death due to coronavirus,\u201d Berger wrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Faculty & Staff Publications Display at the Campus Library features works from UW Bothell and Cascadia College<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The works on display also cover topics from \u201cdumpling-making\u201d and \u201clove letters to daughters\u201d to \u201cplague stories\u201d and \u201cpushing against perfectionism.\u201d Most of the works in the case are available both in the library and online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All are invited to come to the library and discover for themselves the work of these faculty \u2014 plus students and staff \u2014 from UW Bothell and Cascadia College. Any works available in the library collection will also be linked on the UW Bothell\/CC Faculty and Staff Publications webpage<\/a>, where you can also find an archive of works displayed in previous years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
