{"id":15252,"date":"2019-06-10T10:56:05","date_gmt":"2019-06-10T10:56:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.uwb.edu\/?p=15252"},"modified":"2023-06-08T20:47:22","modified_gmt":"2023-06-08T20:47:22","slug":"administration-shankar-pr","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.uwb.edu\/news\/2019\/06\/10\/administration-shankar-pr","title":{"rendered":"Business professor and faculty leader Gowri Shankar fills interim administration role at the University of Washington Bothell"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>BOTHELL, Washington \u2014 The University of Washington Bothell has appointed a longtime faculty member in the School of Business, Gowri Shankar, to serve as the interim vice chancellor for planning and administration (VCPA). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/gowri-shankar.jpg\" alt=\"Gowri Shankar\" class=\"wp-image-25581\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In this role, effective Aug. 1, Shankar will oversee financial planning and accounting, campus facilities and space planning, governmental and community relations, information technology, and human resources. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shankar holds a tenured faculty appointment and has taught at UW Bothell since 2000. His courses include finance, accounting and economics. He received the UW Distinguished Teaching Award in 2008. During the 2018-19 academic year, Shankar also served as chair of the General Faculty Organization, the forum for faculty decision-making and advice to the chancellor. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before starting his academic career, Shankar worked in multinational companies in India and Nigeria. He holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in accounting and finance from Bangalore University and the Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad, and he received his doctorate from Syracuse University.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UW Bothell will conduct a search for a permanent VCPA to replace Ruth A. Johnston, the current vice chancellor.
