{"id":15167,"date":"2019-05-22T16:59:38","date_gmt":"2019-05-22T16:59:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.uwb.edu\/?p=15167"},"modified":"2023-06-08T21:13:40","modified_gmt":"2023-06-08T21:13:40","slug":"teaching-posters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.uwb.edu\/news\/2019\/05\/22\/teaching-posters","title":{"rendered":"Team teaching poster one of best at symposium"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/gustafsonlambert-credit-david-goldstein.jpg\" alt=\"Kristin Gustafson, left, and Amy Lambert\" class=\"wp-image-28615\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Kristin Gustafson, left, and Amy Lambert \/ David Goldstein photo<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A poster on team teaching by two University of Washington Bothell faculty members was judged one of the top three out of about 60 posters presented at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washington.edu\/teaching\/innovation\/teaching-and-learning-symposium\/poster-contest-finalists\/\">UW\u2019s 15th Annual Teaching &amp; Learning Symposium<\/a> in Seattle. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kristin Gustafson, a senior lecturer in the <a href=\"\/ias\">School of Interdisciplinary Arts &amp; Sciences<\/a> (IAS), and Amy Lambert, IAS lecturer, presented at the event April 17 in the Husky Union Building ballroom. It showcased scholarly teaching practices and the latest research in teaching and learning from all three UW campuses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Teacher as scholars <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Gustafson-Lambert poster, \u201cTeam Teaching Models for Professional Development and Peer Learning,\u201d was judged one of three winners based on appearance, content and presentation.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The recognition of the Gustafson-Lambert poster as one of the best highlights UW Bothell as a campus for not only high-quality instruction but also for research and learning from teaching, said Cinnamon Hillyard, interim associate vice chancellor for undergraduate learning and an associate professor in IAS. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The symposium, hosted by the Center for Teaching and Learning, brought together faculty, staff and students from the Bothell, Tacoma and Seattle UW campuses to promote teaching practices that advance student learning.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Team teaching <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are trying to find solutions that address faculty development needs \u2014 improving our teaching and observation strategies \u2014 amid budget and funding constraints,\u201d Gustafson said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur poster shared two outcomes of our team-teaching experience with first-year students,\u201d she reported. \u201cWe identified how the experience functioned as faculty development, and we shared a new peer-observation model that builds on the expertise and insight gained through team teaching.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Representatives from UW Bothell also presented four other posters at the event: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDesign-Based Analysis of a Mentored Teaching Experience for STEM Postdocs,\u201d by Elaine Klein, lecturer, and Rebecca Price, professor, in IAS <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPeer Facilitators Reduce Gender Achievement Gap in Precalculus and Calculus,\u201d by Hillyard in IAS and Bryan White, lecturer, and Emily Gismervig, lecturer, in the School of Science, Technology, Engineering &amp; Mathematics <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTheatre &amp; Community-Based Learning: Inclusive Curriculum &amp; Civic Engagement,\u201d by Deborah Hathaway, lecturer, and Melina Tovar, student, in IAS <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cUnPoster It!: A Playful Scholarly Presentation Alternative,\u201d by Caitlan Maxwell and Nicole Gustavsen, research and instruction librarians in the UW Bothell Cascadia College library;
