PSE\u2019s Green Direct program expands with WUTC approval<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The second offering of Green Direct expands to accommodate additional customers<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

BELLEVUE, Wash. (Dec. 5, 2018) \u2013With the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission\u2019s approval, Puget Sound Energy will be able to increase capacity of the second phase of Green Direct to allow additional customers to participate in the program. As we announced back on Oct. 16, the program has been fully subscribed and will take energy from the largest solar project built in the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are thankful to the commission for recognizing the demands of our customers for more renewable energy options,\u201d said Will Einstein, PSE director of Product Development and Growth. \u201cBy increasing the capacity of Green Direct, we will be able to help more customers achieve their long-term carbon goals.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the WUTC approval to increase the capacity of Green Direct from 75 aMW to 85 aMW, customers like Amazon, University of Washington Bothell and the Issaquah School District are now signed on to participate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEnvironmental sustainability has been a driving force throughout University of Washington Bothell\u2019s evolution,\u201d said Tony Guerrero, UW Bothell associate vice chancellor for Facilities Services and Campus Operations. \u201cGetting 100 percent of our energy from local, renewable sources when we begin our 31st year in 2021 supports our commitment to keep our campus purple, gold and green.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Issaquah School District is the first school district in PSE\u2019s service area to join the program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe program, which enables us to purchase electricity from PSE that is 100% carbon free, aligns with the District\u2019s commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship,\u201d said Issaquah School District Spokesperson L. Michelle. This program will certainly help us achieve our sustainability goals and enhance our ability to operate our facilities in an environmentally efficient and responsible way.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sound Transit, which is already signed up for Phase 1, will also be able to do another 2.8 million kilowatt hours of renewable energy as a participant in Phase 2. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhen we use green energy to power green transportation, we are doubling down on making our region more sustainable,\u201d said Sound Transit CEO Peter Rogoff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The expansion also allows T-Mobile to power more than just its headquarters with renewable energy. It means the wireless provider will be able to power all of T-Mobile\u2019s accounts served by PSE \u2013 more than 640 sites in total \u2013 with 100% local renewable energy by 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
