Tanya<\/span> Kumar, president of the Associated Students of the University of Washington Bothell <\/span>for the 2016-17 year<\/span>, graduated after winter <\/span>quarter<\/span> 20<\/span>18 with a degree in <\/span>Law, Economics and Public Policy<\/span>, and with a minor in <\/span>Human R<\/span>ights.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n During her four years on campus, Kumar interned at T-Mobile, participated in UW Bothell\u2019s Washington, D.C., Human Rights Seminar and traveled to India twice<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n As a result of those meaningful experiences, Kumar values teamwork<\/span>, <\/span>enjoys <\/span>public speaking<\/span> and is passionate about human rights. She <\/span>said she also <\/span>treasures the relationships she developed with faculty, staff and fellow students at UW Bothell.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI think that collaborative support coming from the school really helped direct me <\/span>to <\/span>places I could have never imagined,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n At T-Mobile, Kumar worked as a cybersecurity intern, largely <\/span>in<\/span> teams<\/span> that deal with <\/span>wireless industry <\/span>polic<\/span>ies and compliance. She sat on working groups affiliated with agencies<\/span> such as the Federal Communications Commission.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n In India, she met people who inspired her plans after graduation. <\/span>\u201cI worked with <\/span>diverse<\/span> stakeholders <\/span>that fought for <\/span>gender equality<\/span> at a holistic level,\u201d Kumar said.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n The human rights seminar also left a strong impression on her. <\/span>\u201cI visited various agencies in Washington, D.C., <\/span>that worked to <\/span>combat worldwide human rights violations,\u201d she said. \u201cThat truly empowered and validated the reality of my potentially working in the human<\/span>–<\/span>rights sector.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n Kumar now plans to work full time in the corporate or legal sector. In time, she\u2019d like to return to school at <\/span>a university where she could earn a law degree and MBA at the same time.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n Adding the Husky 100 to her achievements is unbelievable, she said.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIt essentially made me feel I have achieved the goals the University has for al<\/span>l its students,\u201d Kumar said. \u201cI<\/span>t <\/span>humbles me to know that I am representing UW Bothell and UW as an example of a leader, explorer and someone who took advantage of <\/span>her<\/span> moment at the University<\/span>.<\/span>\u201d<\/span> <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Tanya Kumar Leading, working, representing UW Bothell Tanya Kumar, president of the Associated Students of the University of Washington Bothell for the 2016-17 year, graduated after winter quarter 2018 with a degree in Law, Economics and Public Policy, and with a minor in Human Rights.
