BOTHELL, Wash. – The UW Bothell 5K Run-Walk drew a record number of competitors to campus May 14. Proceeds from the annual event, which was organized by the university’s alumni council, support student scholarships.
The event included 500 runners and walkers this year, compared to 350 in 2010.
“In order to draw a larger field this year, we needed to take the event up a notch,” states Alumni Council representative Emily Anderson. “We added several features to the race including individual chip timing, bag check, age division awards, and a professional announcer.”
The overall winners were: Colby Litzenberger in the men’s category with a time of 16:20, and Megan Ekemo for the women with a time of 19:26.
Event organizers are looking at ways to expand the race for 2012, including the possibility of rerouting the course to include sections of downtown Bothell.
The event was sponsored by Evergreen Hospital Medical Center, Crosby and Associates of Ameriprise, Cascadia Community College, and Progressive Insurance.
