One of the first people to greet new students at the University of Washington Bothell is Carrie Newman.

As the advising and orientation program manager, she plays a big role at the UW Bothell Office of Orientation and Transition Programs in welcoming first-year and transfer students to campus.

Now her work has been recognized by the Association for Orientation, Transition, Retention in Higher Education. She was awarded the 2017 Region 1 Outstanding Orientation, Transition & Retention Professional Award at a conference last month in Corvallis, Oregon.

Newman, who has worked at UW Bothell since June 2015, is noted for innovative online orientation programs and her work with first-year mentorship, advising and orientations for students and parents.
