Matt leads Clark Nuber's practice focused on angel and venture-backed enterprises in technology, telecom, consumer products and health sciences. The team helps start-up and emerging-growth companies establish sound business practices to enhance their ability to raise funds, attract customers and develop their people. New clients are usually in the seed to C round in funding, and Clark Nuber helps them grow toward an exit. For more mature companies, Clark Nuber helps refine their practices to secure additional capital, improve their operations and explain their financial results to investors and creditors. This often entails keeping control over their cap table and nailing down revenue recognition policies.
Matt graduated from Eastern Washington University with a degree in accounting and management information systems. He spent the first 18 years of his career at Arthur Andersen, where he audited and advised many technology and telecom companies during the internet boom of the late 1990s. When that firm ceased operations, he and the Seattle/Portland team joined KPMG. Matt helped KPMG win the audit relationship with Sprint and he moved to Kansas City and then Washington, DC to serve that client.
After five years at KPMG, in 2007, he joined a forensic accounting firm and focused on performing accounting and other fraud investigations and providing expert testimony in litigation and SEC matters involving GAAP and GAAS. In 2014, Matt and his wife, Bobbie, returned home to Seattle, and Matt joined Clark Nuber. Bobbie owns and manages a jewelry, art and home décor boutique, which she reopened in Belltown after eight years in Georgetown, DC.
Matt is committed to giving back to the community through volunteer work with charity, professional and civic boards. He was a council member of the Pike Place Market PDA and treasurer and president of the Seattle Public Library Foundation; he now serves on the SPLF Emeritus Board. Matt is also on the boards of the Technology Alliance and Harbor Club Seattle and is an active member of GeekWire, a fast-growing technology news site.
When he is not doing all that stuff, Matt is an enthusiastic and inept golfer and enjoys hanging out with Bobbie in the San Juan Islands and France.
