Admissions appeal policy and procedure
Master of Nursing applicants who have been denied admission may write a letter of appeal requesting reconsideration if they believe there are extenuating circumstances not explained in the nursing goal statement or supporting application materials, or if they believe an error has occurred in the initial evaluation.
Instructions and considerations
Submit a written appeal within two weeks of receiving the denial. Address the appeal to the UW Bothell Master of Nursing Admissions Appeal Committee, comprised of graduate faculty. The recommended length is one to two pages, typed, double spaced, 12-point font. As you prepare your appeal, bear in mind that the admissions committee has already reviewed the entire file and expects the appellant will have presented everything of significance in the initial application.
The committee does not interview appellants or consider in-person appeals. You are welcome to meet with graduate program adviser for support in preparing your petition for review by the committee. Because individual circumstances vary, the following pointers are intended only as general guidelines.
- The appeal should be clear and concise in presenting the case for admission.
- The appeal should directly address any issues raised in your denial letter.
- If you believe there are extenuating circumstances not addressed in your application materials, you may address them in your appeal.
