As the President and faculty advisor for the UWB Chapter's Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society, I am delighted to have this opportunity to share some information with you about this very important organization and what it means for you.
Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS) was founded as a national organization in 1913 and is the Honor Society Serving Business Programs at schools accredited by the AACSB International.
Membership in this honor society is by invitation only and is very prestigious as BGS invites only the very best students in business to become members. An invitation to become a member in BGS is the highest recognition a business student anywhere in the world can receive. The society has a current membership of more than 480,000 of the brightest and best of the world's current and future business leaders. Its mission is to encourage and honor academic achievement in the study of business and professional excellence in the practice of business.
To be eligible for membership, the academic ranking of those being considered must place them in the upper 10% of the senior undergraduate class; or the upper 20% of the graduating master's class. Please note that while almost 300,000 students in the U.S. receive baccalaureate or master's degrees in business each year, less than 20,000 earn lifetime memberships in Beta Gamma Sigma. In short, we are a highly selective and prestigious honor society. If you want to get more information on BGS, please do check out the national organization's website.
After Winter quarter grades are posted, the UWB Business School will invite those select group of students who are eligible to become members. There will be a reception that we will host sometime in May at which there will be an induction ceremony. On this occasion, we plan to recognize the achievement of this outstanding group of new members along with a presentation of the Beta Gamma Sigma medallion and ribbon that these select members will be eligible to wear to graduation. Please note that this is a lifetime recognition for outstanding academic achievement and this membership will provide you with many valuable opportunities over your professional career. The expanded benefits of membership include BGS CareerCentral (job board), Alumni Chapters throughout the country and free subscriptions to business publications along with continuing scholarship and Student Leadership Forum programs.
On behalf of the Business School, I wish you continued success throughout your academic career. We specifically hope to have the opportunity to invite you to become a member of this prestigious honor society during your last academic quarter at UWB.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Rachel Recor (email@example.com) of the Business School office for more details.
