Setting Goals

Students are able to succeed when they have motivation, they know what they want, and their vision is clear on how to achieve what they want. Setting goals is the main factor that contributes to any aspect of success, as well as improving one's self-confidence. No matter where a student is on their level of education, goals are the key to take students a step higher.

When you are setting goals:

  1. Challenge yourself
    Tasks that are too easy or simple may have very little value or reward if they are easy to complete. Creating more challenging goals will, not only keep you motivated to complete a big project, but it could also improve your skills, knowledge, and confidence in the end.
  2. Think realistically
    While challenges are healthy, students tend to lose focus or become too pressured when it comes to goals that may be too much for them to handle. Instead, map out several small goals that lead up to completing a bigger goal. The more small goals you have accomplished, the more motivated and confident you might feel.
  3. Keep track of your progress
    Documenting your progress in a journal or a To-Do list will keep you focused on both the task at hand and what still needs to be done in order to move on. It is also a great tool for maintaining a motivated and consistent work ethic, especially when you know where you are in the process of finishing that goal and how much is left before you are done.
  4. Take a step back
    Stressful situations are always likely to appear, especially when working on something difficult. Know your limits and learn to pace yourself. Make time for yourself to relax and be distant with your work so that when you can come back, you are working with a calm and content mindset.
