Introduction to the School of Educational Studies

As articulated in the School of Educational Studies vision statement, the School supports interdisciplinary scholarship that explores the multifaceted dimensions of learning and schooling. We give particular focus to:

  • Purposes of education in a social and political democracy
  • Responsibilities of universities to collaborate with community partners
  • Critical roles of professional educators in supporting equity in learning

Students completing a School of Educational Studies degree or certification program will develop a project documenting growth and demonstrating learning and knowledge across core educational concepts and themes. This project will take the form of a portfolio, capstone project, or dossier. The project will contain evidence of learning, connections between theory and practice, and reflections on this evidence and how it influences and shapes your knowledge and growth in education.

Creating your eportfolio

We recommend you use your own personal email account to create your eportfolio in New Google Sites or any of the other two tools listed below. You will need a Gmail account to use New Google Sites, but for WordPress and Weebly, any personal email account will work.

Student Support – Open Learning Lab

Students have access to great tutors and assistance for students at the Open Learning Lab, located in UW2-140, weekdays during the academic quarters. Tutors are usually available Monday through Thursday, 9am to 4pm.

Saving Student Content in UW Google Drive

After the end of quarter and especially before graduation, students should add a personal Gmail address as editor to any content under their UW email address in Google Drive in order to duplicate content from the personal Gmail account.

Access to the UW Google Suite ends after one quarter following graduation and all content connected to those accounts is removed.
