8/14/19 – Adobe CS4 to be Sunset

Adobe Design Suite CS4 (which includes Photoshop CS4, InDesign CS4, Illustrator Cs4) will be decommissioned from all faculty, staff, and classroom computers at the beginning of September 2019. The Adobe Creative Suite CS4 software is over 10 years old; the last security patch for this software was in 2014. Given this significant security risk, we are planning for the removal of Adobe CS4 applications with the exception of Adobe Acrobat Pro and Adobe Acrobat Reader.

What are my Adobe options on campus?

In the classroom

Currently the Digital Media Lab has the newest version of Adobe Creative Cloud (Adobe CC) installed on all twenty-seven Apple computers. Please note that Adobe CC and Adobe CS4 are two different programs.

For those that teach with Adobe products, it is very important to reach out to your time schedule coordinator to ensure you have the DML (UW2-121) reserved for class Fall quarter. The DML can be booked for a one-off reservations via UWB’s classroom request form.

Individual use:

Adobe CC is installed on all the computers (Windows and Apple) in the Open Learning Lab (OLL) (UW2-140). This space is available on a drop-in basis (the OLL is not a classroom nor an instructional space). The OLL is also available for faculty & staff who need access to Adobe software but do not have a personal/work copy.

Adobe CC software includes the following titles:

  • Photoshop
  • Lightroom
  • Illustrator
  • InDesign
  • Premiere
  • After Effects

Adobe Creative Cloud Changes

The University of Washington has recently negotiated an Enterprise License Agreement with Adobe for the first time. This new agreement allows Adobe Creative Cloud users to purchase the software at a discounted price annually starting July 2019.

Additionally, Adobe has modernized Creative Cloud licensing for classrooms. Effective this Fall, Adobe IDs, which are free to all, will be required when launching the CC applications in both the Digital Media Lab (DML) and the Open Learning Lab (OLL). Instructions on how to login will be posted in the DML and OLL.
