If your Post-completion OPT has expired, you are no longer eligible to apply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Form I-983 Training Plan<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To begin your application, you and your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.e-verify.gov\/\">E-verified<\/a> employer must complete the first 4 pages of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ice.gov\/doclib\/sevis\/pdf\/i983.pdf\"><strong>Form I-983<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">I-983 Section 1<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Completed by the student.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Name of School Recommending STEM OPT.<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>University of Washington Bothell<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Name of School Where STEM Degree Was Earned.<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If you are applying for STEM OPT extension based on a degree earned at UWB, then write \u201cUniversity of Washington Bothell\u201d.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If your STEM degree was earned elsewhere, you will need to list the name of that school.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>SEVIS School Code of School Recommending STEM OPT<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Check page 1 of your I-20. Your school code will be SEA214F00005000.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>DSO Name and Contact Information<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Write the name and UW email address of an international student advisor at ISS.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Student SEVIS ID<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Your SEVIS ID is listed at the top of your I-20.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your SEVIS ID begins with the letter \u201cN\u201d followed by ten digits.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>STEM OPT Requested Period.<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The start date is the day after your current OPT ends. Please look at your current EAD to confirm.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The end date is two years after the STEM OPT start date.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For example:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Current 12-month OPT: 07\/15\/2020 &#8211; 07\/14\/2021<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>STEM OPT: 07\/15\/2021 &#8211; 07\/14\/2023<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Qualifying Major and Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP) Code.<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This information is listed on page one of your I-20 under \u2018Program of Study\u2019.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The CIP code is six digits long (00.0000).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Include the name of your degree as written on your I-20.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Date Awarded<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Found on your official UW Bothell transcript.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Based on Prior Degree?<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Select \u201cNo\u201d if your application is based on your UW Bothell degree.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select &#8220;Yes&#8221; if your application is based on a prior STEM eligible degree from another institution.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Employment Authorization Number<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This is the USCIS# listed on your current EAD<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">I-983&nbsp;Section 2<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Completed by the student.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">I-983 Section 3 ~ 6<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Completed by your employer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">I-983 Evaluations<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Submitted after 12 and 24 months of STEM OPT.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do not prefill or sign the evaluations before they are due.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">STEM OPT Extension recommendation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Request your recommendation at the <a href=\"https:\/\/iss.uwb.edu\/\">international student portal<\/a>.<\/strong> In <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><em>7 &#8211; 10 days<\/em><\/span><\/strong>, you will receive a new I-20 with a STEM OPT extension recommendation on the second page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This document is <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><em>required<\/em><\/span><\/strong> to apply for STEM Extension OPT.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The STEM OPT Extension recommendation is only valid for 30 days.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-highlight-paragraph-grey-background\"><strong>Note:<\/strong> If you have not reported employment for Post-completion OPT, your request will be denied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Form I-765<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Form I-765 can be submitted online at <a href=\"https:\/\/my.uscis.gov\/\">my.uscis.gov<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You can only submit an I-765 <strong><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">after<\/span><\/em><\/strong> receiving a STEM OPT extension recommendation on your I-20. <strong><em>Submitting Form I-765 without a STEM OPT Extension recommendation will result in a denial.<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You must submit an I-765 within <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><em>30 days<\/em><\/span><\/strong> of the STEM OPT extension recommendation issue date. <strong><em>Submitting Form I-765 more than 30 days after the I-20 issue date will result in a denial.<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You are responsible for correctly filing Form I-765 with USCIS. ISS can assist you with questions, but filing Form I-765, verifying your uploaded documents, and paying the I-765 filing fee are solely your responsibility.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When completing the evidence section of the I-765, please upload your&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/registrar.washington.edu\/students\/transcripts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Official Transcript<\/a>&nbsp;and your&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/registrar.washington.edu\/students\/cediploma\/\">CeDiploma<\/a>&nbsp;(or a scan of your diploma).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The school certification on the I-765 is only required if your STEM degree is from another institution other than UWB.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make sure you file Form I-765 under category C3C (STEM OPT Extension).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use your personal email address on the form, do not rely on access to your UW email.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Waiting for authorization<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>After filing Form I-765, you must wait for your authorization. The average time is <strong>90 days<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Expect to receive a notification for a Biometrics Appointment. If you receive this notification, you will need to attend your Biometrics Appointment for your application to proceed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>By filing Form I-765 for category C3C, you will receive an automatic 6-month extension of your current EAD. This means that if your current EAD expires and you&#8217;re still waiting for USCIS to authorize the extension, you can continue working.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You can remain in the US while your Form I-765 is pending.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We do not recommend travelling outside the US. You will not be able to re-enter the US without your valid EAD. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you receive a request for evidence from USCIS, inform ISS and respond to USCIS.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Typically, these requests can be fulfilled by uploading additional documents to your pending application.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Employment Authorization Document (EAD)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>After approval, you will be sent a new EAD that will show authorization for 24-months.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The EAD can take <strong>1 &#8211; 2 weeks<\/strong> to arrive.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use the USPS tracking number you receive from USCIS to make sure your EAD arrives.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If your EAD is lost in the mail, please inform ISS immediately.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Your application must be received by USCIS within 90 days before the end of your authorized Post-completion OPT.
