{"id":20865,"date":"2021-10-05T16:12:22","date_gmt":"2021-10-05T16:12:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.uwb.edu\/?p=20865"},"modified":"2023-06-08T21:05:41","modified_gmt":"2023-06-08T21:05:41","slug":"amy-hirayama-page-fellow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.uwb.edu\/ias\/news\/2021\/10\/05\/amy-hirayama-page-fellow","title":{"rendered":"Amy Hirayama receives PAGE Fellowship with Imagining America: Artists &amp; Scholars in Public Life"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/amy-hirayama-page-fellow.jpg\" alt=\"amy hirayama page fellow\" class=\"wp-image-24089\"><\/figure>\n\n<p>Amy Hirayama, second-year student in the <a href=\"\/mfa\">MFA in Creative Writing &amp; Poetics<\/a> and a <a href=\"\/mfa\/people\/student-ambassadors\">student ambassador<\/a> has been selected as one of eight 2021-2022 Publicly Active Graduate Education Fellows, by the national consortium Imagining America: Artists &amp; Scholars in Public Life.<\/p>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/imaginingamerica.org\/what-we-do\/fellowships\/page\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Publicly Active Graduate Education<\/a> (PAGE) is Imagining America&rsquo;s (IA&rsquo;s) network for publicly engaged graduate students in humanities, arts, and design.  Amy&rsquo;s writing and poetics explore how writing can be used as a tool for social justice and self care, and her writing interests include Okinawa history, culture, and literary traditions, Hapa identity, pedagogy, the art and craft of writing workshops, food and identity, poetry, prose, and graphic novels\/comics.<\/p>\n\n<p>PAGE enhances the praxis and pedagogy of public scholarship; fosters a national, interdisciplinary community of peers and veteran scholars; and creates opportunities for collaborative knowledge production. PAGE Fellows come together as a learning community at Imagining America&rsquo;s annual gathering and throughout the year to share their engaged public scholarship and creative practice. <\/p>\n\n<p>UW Bothell is a member organization of Imagining America, and Amy joins several &ldquo;generations&rdquo; of IAS graduate students as a graduate student representative and leader in PAGE.  Amy says, &ldquo;It&#039;s been such an amazing experience getting to know this cohort of grad students from across the country.&rdquo;<\/p>\n\n<p>PAGE Fellows will be presenting their work online in a series of Lightning Talks on Friday, October 22, 1:15 -2:45 pm (PDT) \/ 3:15-4:15 CDT.
