For the newest dramatic production created by <a data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cryhavoctheater.org\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Cry Havoc Theater Company<\/a> in Dallas, Texas, Atkinson contributed a series of interviews based on her work helping students navigate <a data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" href=\"https:\/\/www.drjenniferatkinson.com\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">eco-anxiety and climate despair<\/a>. The resulting piece, titled <i><a data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cryhavoctheater.org\/upcoming\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Endlings<\/a>,<\/i> is Cry Havoc\u2019s fourth verbatim production, and is being presented as an audio play recorded in true 3-dimensional sound with a binaural microphone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project\u2019s director, <a data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mararichards.com\/about\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Mara Richards Bim<\/a>, spent several weeks outdoors collecting audio recordings of the natural world, and the resulting sound design immerses the audience in nature. The play weaves together first-person interviews with experts and activists like Atkinson, individuals living on the front lines of climate change, and conversations between the teens of Cry Havoc Theater. <i>Endlings<\/i> was released alongside five original short films and an <a data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" href=\"https:\/\/www.endlingstheplay.com\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">interactive website<\/a> to engage audiences in the ongoing conversations generated by the play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/cry-havoc-actors.jpg\" alt=\"Cry Havoc actors in the park dancing\" class=\"wp-image-25228\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In a review of the play posted on <a data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" href=\"http:\/\/www.theaterjones.com\/ntx\/reviews\/20201031160836\/2020-10-31\/Cry-Havoc-Theater-Company\/Endlings\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Theater Jones<\/a>, theater critic Janice Franklin writes:<\/p>\n\n\n<?xml encoding=\"utf-8\" ?><blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<svg xmlns=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\" aria-hidden=\"true\" viewbox=\"0 0 31.93 23.66\" width=\"34\">\n  <path fill=\"currentColor\" d=\"M19.94 23.655h11.988V12.578h-6.6a6.63 6.63 0 0 1 .662-3.486 8.55 8.55 0 0 1 5.721-4.722V.001a14.8 14.8 0 0 0-8.687 4.768q-3.089 3.606-3.089 9.994v8.893Zm-19.938 0H11.99V12.578h-6.6a7.5 7.5 0 0 1 .631-3.575q1.47-3.277 5.763-4.633V.001a14.54 14.54 0 0 0-8.771 4.788c-2 2.427-3.008 5.781-3.008 9.974Z\"><\/path>\n<\/svg><p>The title [&ldquo;Endlings&rdquo;] was chosen because it fit what the students argue is at the core of concern about climate change. When a species disappears except for one specimen, the one remaining is an endling. Central to the cast&rsquo;s argument is that we should view climate change through grieving of lives lost, inclusive of all life forms, not just humans. As one line expresses, &ldquo;A whole species leaving means something. Reeves wove these conversations into a new book, <a data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B08DTPRMGV\/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"><i>Growing up in the Grassroots: Finding Unity in Climate Activism Across Generations<\/i>.<\/a> The book asks readers to consider the following question: How do I best facilitate conversations on climate change with people from a different generation \u2014 or political background \u2014 than my own?<br>\n<br>\n<i>Growing Up in the Grassroot<\/i> seeks to answer this question as Reeves explores the intergenerational and partisan misunderstandings she witnesses regularly in her environmental science and policy career.
