This is a coordinated <a href=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/human-rights-minor\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/humanrights\/human-rights-minor\/\">tri-campus initiative<\/a> (UW Tacoma, UW Seattle and UW Bothell) and students are encouraged, but are not required, to take courses from more than one campus to earn the minor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-black-font-weight has-purple-300-color has-text-color has-h-3-font-size\">Minor Requirements<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-highlight-paragraph-large has-medium-font-size\">Students pursuing the Human Rights minor must complete 25 credits in the following areas:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul style=\"padding-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--50)\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>10 credits in Human Rights <strong>Core <\/strong>courses<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>5 credits in Human Rights <strong>Broad Context<\/strong> courses<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>10 credits in either Human Rights <strong>Core <\/strong>or <strong>Broad Context<\/strong> courses<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Completion of the <strong>Practical Experience Requirement<\/strong> <strong>(PER)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These courses may be taken at UW Bothell, UW Seattle or UW Tacoma. Classes in this minor are offered primarily during the day-time hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:36px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-narrow\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Practical Experience Requirement<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The purpose of the Practical Experience Requirement (PER) for the human rights minor is to ensure that students connect with real world issues during their university experience as they pursue the human rights minor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students may choose one of the following activities to satisfy the Practical Experience Requirement (PER):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-style-box-shadow is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading is-style-default has-purple-300-color has-text-color has-link-color has-h-4-font-size wp-elements-850faacfbce56459afb712a14ba20623\">BIS 403 Washington, D.C. Human Rights Seminar<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-c589dfb29b1c25472da8d4512194f816\">This course requires an application and selection. Deadline is generally in Spring quarter. Courses not listed can be petitioned using the <a href=\"https:\/\/uwashington.qualtrics.com\/jfe\/form\/SV_5hgPZpaOWL4OfwW\">PER form<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-purple-300-color has-text-color has-link-color has-h-4-font-size wp-elements-51e8efb36c3eab9493d18a65aad8a51f\">Study Abroad program<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Complete a Study Abroad course for at least 3 credits, with a human rights component.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-purple-300-color has-text-color has-link-color has-h-4-font-size wp-elements-b4d7ecba586271400fadc29d9043e137\">Internship Experience<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-07ea8aa3e40dbd502357fbac3dcb1bca\">Complete an internship related to human rights and register in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uwb.edu\/ias\/undergraduate\/hands-on-learning\/internships\">BIS 495 Internship Course<\/a> for least 3 credits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<details class=\"wp-block-details has-small-font-size is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow\"><summary><strong>How to report internship hours<\/strong>:<\/summary>\n<p>If you select an internship experience, provide confirmation of hours from a supervisor via email to IASAPPLY@uw.edu<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-purple-300-color has-text-color has-link-color has-h-4-font-size wp-elements-597338bf70c8e8195b4da37f5dfd6a8b\">Volunteer or Organizing<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Complete volunteer service or an organizing experience that deals with a human rights issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<details class=\"wp-block-details has-small-font-size is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow\"><summary><strong>How to choose a volunteer or organizing experience:<\/strong><\/summary>\n<p>Appropriate volunteer or organizing experiences are placements with agencies or organizations whose activity involves the promotion of human rights. Typically, these are advocacy, activist groups or NGOs, government agencies, and non-profits which facilitate access to claims and benefits which might be deemed.
