OVERVIEW<\/h2>\n\n\n\n


\nThis fall convergence focuses on liveness as the state or quality of being alive, or live. We have invited writers and artists to this year\u2019s Convergence whose art and writing engages liveness in its diverse manifestations. With the advent of technologies beginning with radio and television, and now streaming and instant replay possibilities, the ways of going live are numerous. Yet, perhaps because of these replication technologies, a new onus is now placed on the unmediated, unplanned alive of performance as it crosses multiple arts. Deleuze linked literature with life itself, which when it reached its potential he validated as process, as becoming: \u201cWriting is a question of becoming, always incomplete, always in the midst of being formed and goes beyond the matter of any livable or lived experience. It is a process, that is a passage of Life that traverses both the livable and the lived.\u201d As such for him \u201cSyntax is the set of necessary detours that are created [. . .] to reveal the life in things.\u201d At this convergence we ask several questions: What is liveness? Does liveness always entail the present tense? Can liveness and narrative inhabit the same space? How does liveness change in relationship to different art forms and art media? Is presence always present? Is a long reverb more alive than a short one?
