Changes to the School of IAS Requirements Effective Autumn 2016
Beginning Autumn 2016, all students admitted to the School of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences (IAS) must complete IAS's new graduation requirements. The new requirements provide greater flexibility in course scheuling, open up opportunities for experiential learning through study abroad and internships, and allow for more upper division course work.
Changes to School Requirements
IAS majors require the completion of 68-80 credits. The core requirements for all IAS majors remain the same. Changes to the IAS major include:
- 25 credits of Areas of Knowledge may be completed at any University of Washington campus or transferred to the University from another regionally accredited higher education institution.
- Removal of the General Elective category.
- The Lower Division Credit Policy has been replaced with an Upper Division Credit Policy.
- The Upper Division Credit Policy requires all IAS majors to complete a minimum of 48 credits with upper division (300-400 level) course work.
The specific major requirements for each IAS major can be found on the individual major page.
Students Admitted to IAS prior to Autumn 2016
Students admitted prior to Autumn 2016 may choose to complete their degree under the current graduation requirements or switch to these new requirements. Please schedule an advising appointment with an IAS advisor to review the new degree requirements and how they apply to your academic plan. You can schedule an appointment with your IAS advisor or email.
