Rebecca Aanerud publishes on humility and whiteness

October 31, 2014 - IAS associate dean and faculty member Rebecca Aanerud published "Humility and Whiteness: “How did I look without seeing, hear without listening?” in the collection of essays White Self-Criticality beyond Anti-racism: How Does It Feel to Be a White Problem?  Aanerud’s essay focuses on the pedagogical promise of the crisis set in motion when white students start to come to terms with racism, whiteness, and complicity. She introduces a theoretical framework of humility as a means for understanding how we might help our students negotiate (not negate) this difficult reality of being a "white problem.
