IAS faculty promotions

IAS faculty members Jennifer AtkinsonKaram DanaBecca PriceMira ShimabukuroJanelle Silva, and Camille Walsh have been promoted in rank.  Atkinson and Shimabukuro were promoted from Lecturer to Senior Lecturer.  Dana, Silva, and Walsh were promoted from Assistant to Associate Professor (with tenure), and Price was promoted from Associate to Full Professor.

Camille Walsh publishes Racial Taxation: Schools, Segregation, and Taxpayer Citizenship, 1869-1973

IAS faculty member Camille Walsh published Racial Taxation: Schools, Segregation, and Taxpayer Citizenship, 1869-1973 with the University of North Carolina Press.  The book explores the history of the concept of “taxpayer citizenship”—the idea that, as taxpayers, we deserve access to certain social services like a public education.  It shows how tax policy and taxpayer identity were built on the foundations of white supremacy and intertwined with ideas of whiteness.
