Karen Rosenberg and Julie Shayne speak on a panel in honor of Judy Howard

University of Washington Professor Judy Howard is retiring as Divisional Dean of Social Sciences. On Monday June 5, Gender, Women & Sexuality Studies at the UW Seattle campus hosted a half day conference and reception to honor the career and mentoring of Judy. Included in the program was a panel titled “Feminist Scholarly Mentorship and Publishing,” on which both Karen Rosenberg and Julie Shayne were invited panelists.

Gender, Women & Sexuality Studies (GWSS) Student Representative Kyra Laughlin and Cecilee Fernadez presented their proposal at the UWB Equity and Inclusion conference on behalf of their new student-led organization Sexual Assault and Violence Education (S.A.V.E). S.A.V.E, along with four other student groups, competed to win a $5,000 grant provided by T-Mobile. GWSS professors Shayne, Rosenberg, and Kurian present papers at the National Women’s Studies Association conference

IAS faculty members Julie ShayneKaren Rosenberg, and Alka Kurian attended the National Women's Studies Association conference in Montréal from November 10-13, 2016. Shayne organized a panel titled “Reimagining Settled Spaces: Creativity, Pedagogy, and Activism,” on which Rosenberg and she presented. Rosenberg’s paper was titled “Unsettling Literacy-Based Colonial Logics in the Writing Center,” and Shayne’s “Unsettling the Neutral Archive: Feminist Knowledge Production and University of Washington Bothell’s Social Justice and Diversity Archive (SJDA).” Shayne also ...
