Several IAS faculty and students participated in the UW-wide teach-in, “Ferguson and Beyond: Race, State Violence, and Activist Agendas for the 21st Century,” which was written up in the Seattle Times.  IAS faculty members Dan Berger and Scott Kurashige presented on the panel "The Past is Always Present: Contextualizing US State Violence," and Wadiya Udell moderated the panel "#Blacklivesmatter: A Universal Call for Social Justice." 

Kelle Grace Gaddis, a 2014 graduate of our MFA in Creative Writing & Poetics program, has launched Brightly Press.  This small press will debut at the Association of Writers and Writing Programs conference in April 2015, featuring some of the coutry's top poets. Gaddis' own work has recently been published in a number of venues. 

IAS faculty member Kristy Leissle appears in a new film, Penguin Post Office, about humans living among wild animals.  While doing research in Antarctica in winter 2014, Leissle worked with the BBC film crew, focusing on her team's interactions with a colony of Gentoo penguins.

IAS faculty member Amaranth Borsuk's video project from her new book As We Know was featured this week in the Huffington Post. The book and videos are a collaboration with writer Andy Fitch, who visited Bothell on January 20 as part of the From the Convergence Zone reading series. 

IAS faculty member Dan Berger was interviewed for a story in the International Business Times about U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder’s civil rights legacy. Berger places Holder’s legacy in the context of the protest and civil disobedience currently organized under the banner “black lives matter,” suggesting ...
