IAS hosted its first “Mentor Chat” in January with alum Deborah Oaks (Science, Technology and the Environment, '08).  Mentor Chats assist students with career exploration and networking by providing opportunities to dialogue with IAS alum and community partners working across diverse roles and sectors.  

IAS faculty member Karam Dana will speak on “Confronting Injustice: Palestinian Identity and Non-Violent Forms of Resisting Israeli Occupation” in a live streamed lecture on February 19 at Brown University. 

IAS faculty member Dan Berger discussed his book Captive Nation: Black Prison Organizing in the Civil Rights Era on the Morning Blend, a program of KBCS radio in Bellevue. KBCS played excerpts of the interview with Berger throughout the week of Feb 2.

IAS faculty members Jin-Kyu Jung and Janelle Silva presented their research at the 4th International Conference on the Geographies of Children, Youth & Families, held in San Diego, CA.  

Deborah Oaks ('08, Science, Technology & the Environment) met with students to share her experiences.

Deborah has been playing on rivers her whole life and working to restore them for nearly a decade. In her earlier days, she studied on the Quileute River studying Japanese Knotweed. Finding the work rather buggy, she moved inland to the Snoqualmie River and worked for five years with Stewardship Partners to reconcile farms and fish.
