BIS 293 Special Topics: Global Scholars

Spring Quarter: Mondays, 3:30 PM - 5:30 PM

Course Purpose and Learning Outcomes:

The Global Scholars Program at the University of Washington Bothell unites students of diverse backgrounds to investigate and explore questions of diversity, difference, and identity in and across global engagements. The purpose of this course is to introduce students in the Global Scholars Program to issues in global learning and intercultural communication as informed by the concepts of culture, community, and inequality. Having either already selected or being in the process of selecting different opportunities for internships and study abroad, students in this course will explore and reflect on different ideas about what it means to have a “global learning experience.” This course combines online content with weekly in-class meetings. Students should expect to spend two hours per week completing the assigned online work outside of class meeting times which will include the submission of written reflections and comments on peer reflections.
