Every day, our students make a difference across our region, not only as alumni after they graduate but also while they are here at UW Bothell. Not someday. Right now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students work alongside faculty and staff mentors as well as our industry and community partners to take on complex, real-world challenges and to contribute to research and local projects, all the while discovering what they are capable of achieving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I get to see this work happening across campus and the region. I see students and faculty working together to advance research, strengthen community partnerships and create new opportunities for learning and discovery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our students\u2019 education and impact are supported by an expansive network of people \u2014 including you, our donors \u2014 who believe in students and in all that education can make possible. Our students feel this support every day through scholarships, mentorship, advising, peer tutoring and coaching, student organizations, and other resources that help them thrive academically and personally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI just graduated with my bachelor\u2019s in Law, Economics & Public Policy from the University of Washington Bothell. The road to get there has been long and difficult.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMy academic journey has been nothing like I expected. As a kid, college was never a topic of conversation in our home. We lived paycheck to paycheck. We didn\u2019t ask for things we knew we couldn\u2019t have. When my friends started talking about college applications and campus tours, I worked up the courage to ask my parents about my options. The answer was worse than I imagined: \u2018We don\u2019t know.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEventually, they settled on the idea of community college. The plan was that I would take on just enough loans to get by without falling into overwhelming debt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI wasn\u2019t afraid of working hard to pay off the debt required to pursue a degree at a four-year university, like I desperately wanted. So I applied to 10 universities, paying the application fees myself. When I received offer letters from all of them, I cried tears of joy. This was my golden ticket to go to college, and I was overwhelmed with possibilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI started college in 2020 at Whitman College. Once there, I spent the next three years battling severe financial instability and loneliness which I had never experienced before. In 2023, I finally broke. I had no money to my name. No car. Not even a credit card. I had to admit defeat. I decided to take a six-month leave of absence to find my bearings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis time, I was going to do whatever it took to feel in control of my life. I accepted the only job that would allow me to work more than 45 hours a week. My six-month leave of absence turned into a year and a half. I built up my savings, got my driver\u2019s license and purchased my first car. I learned financial literacy. I was finally safe and ready to finish school, but I wanted a fresh start.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cUW Bothell gave me that fresh start \u2014 and so much more. Thanks to scholarships, I have been able not just to survive in college but also to thrive, to wonder and to dream again. I have met so many new people with unique perspectives and backgrounds. I have never felt out of place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI chose to major in Law, Economics & Public Policy because it feels foundational to the kind of change I want to make through my work. Now that I\u2019ve graduated, I intend to work as a paraeducator before completing a master\u2019s degree in education. I want to teach English as a second language, and I hope to empower other disadvantaged students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs a first-generation college student navigating higher education largely on my own, my path requires resilience, discipline and a strong sense of purpose. Transferring to the University of Washington Bothell marked a pivotal moment for me, as it represented not only academic progress but also the realization that I could pursue my long-term goal in a supportive, opportunity-driven environment that values leadership and applied learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMy experience at UW Bothell has profoundly shaped my long-term ambitions. This campus community, access to faculty mentorship and emphasis on leadership development have helped me see myself as both a scholar and a leader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cUW Bothell has been a very welcoming and positive institution. The collaborative environment at UW Bothell has allowed me to not only grow as an individual and learner but also as an educator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHere, I am able to become the kind of educator I needed when I was growing up, the kind of teacher who sees every student\u2019s potential and helps them reach towards it. Through my coursework and my practicum, I\u2019ve gained the knowledge and confidence to create a classroom where students feel seen, supported and empowered to succeed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI am grateful and blessed to have found UW Bothell. From the day I started classes in autumn 2024, doors have been opening for me left and right, and a scholarship has allowed me to experience even greater opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMajoring in Media & Communication Studies has allowed me to take courses that involve working with a camera, editing and writing. These courses have granted me experiences to tap into and expand my creativity \u2014 things I longed for while growing up in Montana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI am growing not only in my major but in my business knowledge, too. I have my own hair business, and taking courses at UW Bothell has helped me see the ins and outs of business, which I have been able to apply to my work as an entrepreneur.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u201cComing from a community where access to quality healthcare wasn\u2019t always easy for others, I felt drawn to UW Bothell because of its strong commitment to social justice and health equity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cParticipating in the UW\u2019s Summer Health Professions Education Program deepened my passion for dentistry and community-based healthcare. During the program, I worked on a project about water fluoridation and oral health disparities with the Arcora Foundation\u2019s SmileMobile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMy coursework, especially in global health and health research, has strengthened my understanding of how systemic barriers affect health outcomes. After graduating, I plan to pursue a career in dentistry focused on creating accessible, equitable care solutions for underserved communities.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAttending UW Bothell has been an important step in my academic and personal growth, allowing me to pursue opportunities that I could never have imagined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cReceiving a scholarship had a meaningful impact on my educational journey. Financially, it helped reduce the burden of tuition and allowed me to focus more fully on my studies. Academically and personally, it gave me the freedom to engage more deeply in my coursework and participate in opportunities such as the Electronics Club.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnother experience that sticks out to me is being part of the Digital Scholars Program during my sophomore year, which reinforced my passion for my field and validated my decision to pursue electrical engineering.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
