If you would like to apply for one of these lucrative scholarship opportunities, contact the Career Center to learn more about specific details and timelines regarding the application process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Beinecke Scholarship<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Through the <a href=\"http:\/\/foundationcenter.org\/grantmaker\/beinecke\/\">Beinecke Scholarship Program<\/a>, twenty college juniors of exceptional ability and achievement will be chosen to receive $34,000 for graduate school in the arts, humanities, or social sciences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Scholars are selected based on intellectual ability, scholastic achievement, personal promise, and financial need, and applicants are expected to have well formulated ideas about the direction of their studies and their future careers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The University of Washington is allowed to nominate one student each year and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washington.edu\/students\/ugrad\/scholar\/scholarships\/s\/beinecke\">campus deadline<\/a> is in January.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Carnegie Endowment Junior Fellowship<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Each year the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.carnegieendowment.org\/about\/index.cfm?fa=jrFellows\">Carnegie Endowment<\/a> offers 8-10 one-year fellowships to uniquely qualified graduating seniors and individuals who have graduated during the past academic year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Carnegie Junior Fellows work as research assistants to the Endowment&#8217;s senior associates.  They are unable to consider anyone who has already started graduate studies.<br>\nThe University of Washington is able to nominate two applicants per year and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washington.edu\/students\/ugrad\/scholar\/scholarships\/s\/carnegie\">campus deadline<\/a> is in October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.act.org\/goldwater\/\">Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Program<\/a> was created to encourage outstanding students to pursue careers in mathematics, the natural sciences, or engineering and to foster excellence in these fields.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Four-year institutions are eligible to nominate up to four students who will be juniors or seniors in the next academic year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Awards are a maximum of $7,500 annually for up to two years and the University of Washington <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washington.edu\/students\/ugrad\/scholar\/scholarships\/s\/goldwater\">campus deadline<\/a> for this scholarship is in October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Carlson Civic Fellow<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Candidates selected to be a <a href=\"http:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/leader\/fellowships\/carlsonfellows.html\">Carlson Civic Fellow<\/a> will be enrolled in a leadership development seminar and supported with a $2000 scholarship (paid upon the completion of fellowship requirements). This scholarship is intended to free students from work commitments and provide the time needed to work in partnership with the community.  If you have any questions please e-mail<a href=\"mailto:engage@uw.edu\">engage@uw.edu<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sterling and Gene Munro Public Service Fellowship<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/depts.washington.edu\/leader\/fellowships\/munrofellows.html\">Sterling and Gene Munro Public Service Fellowship<\/a> is meant to encourage a life-long commitment to public service by providing outstanding undergraduates with the opportunity to explore their potential for service and leadership in the community.  Munro Public Service Fellows are selected on the basis of a proposed public service initiative and their commitment to community engagement. Munro fellows will be selected by December 2011 and be awarded their fellowship during the Winter and Spring quarters of 2012. The total award amount will range from $2000 to $4000, depending on the number of fellows selected.  If you have any questions please e-mail <a href=\"mailto:engage@uw.edu\">engage@uw.edu<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Merage Foundation Fellows Program<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.meragefoundations.com\/mfad.html\">Merage Foundation Fellowship Program<\/a> is dedicated to promoting expanded opportunities for immigrants to achieve their American Dream. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The selected Fellows will be immigrant students who reflect both a strong desire and a real capacity to achieve leadership roles in business, science, education, public service, culture, and the arts. Each Fellow will be asked to make a commitment to become mentors of future Fellows subsequent to their initial two-year program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fellows are awarded a stipend of $10,000 for two years and the University of Washington <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washington.edu\/students\/ugrad\/scholar\/scholarships\/s\/merage\">campus deadline<\/a> is in October. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Presidential Management Fellows<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pmf.opm.gov\/\">Presidential Management Fellows<\/a> program is a highly selective, rigorous leadership program that recruits outstanding graduate students for a two-year developmental fellowship at various Federal agencies.  More than 80 Federal agencies throughout the U.S. partner with the PMF Program Office to hire Fellows annually.<br>\nThe purpose of the program is to attract to the Federal service outstanding men and women from a variety of academic disciplines and career paths who have a clear interest in, and commitment to, excellence in the leadership and management of public policies and programs.<br>\nThe University of Washington <a href=\"\/studentaffairs\/merit-scholarships\/scholarship-search-resources\/opportunities-for-graduate-students##post-graduate-employment\">campus deadline<\/a> is in October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Harry S. Truman Scholarships<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The mission of the <a href=\"http:\/\/truman.gov\/\">Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation<\/a> is to find and recognize college juniors with exceptional leadership potential who are committed to careers in government, the non-profit or advocacy sectors, education or elsewhere in the public service.<br>\nTruman Scholars are provided with financial support for graduate study, leadership training, and fellowship with other students who are committed to making a difference through public service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The University of Washington <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washington.edu\/students\/ugrad\/scholar\/scholarships\/s\/truman\">campus deadline<\/a> is in November, and all candidates should be aware that there has been an instituted service requirement for all Truman Scholars that requires three years of public service within seven years after graduating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Humane Studies Fellowships<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theihs.org\/humane-studies-fellowships\">Humane Studies Fellowships<\/a> are awarded to graduate students and outstanding undergraduates embarking on liberty-advancing careers in ideas. The fellowships support study in a variety of fields, including economics, philosophy, law, political science, history, and sociology. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Awards range from $2,000 to $15,000 and fellowship winners may re-apply for each year of their studies. In 2011, the Institute for Humane Studies awarded more than $750,000 to 195 students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The program is open to full-time and prospective graduate students, including law and MBA students. There are a limited number of fellowships open to undergraduate juniors and seniors with a demonstrated interest in pursuing a scholarly career. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The deadline is December 31, 2011. Applications must be submitted through <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theihs.org\/MyIHS\/Applications\/ApplicationsHome.aspx\">online application system<\/a>. You can review the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theihs.org\/humane-studies-fellowships\/application-preview\" title=\"View the application questions\">application questions<\/a> before you start your application. You can also start and save your application and submit it at a later time. If you have not already registered on TheIHS.org, the application requires a short registration process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Morris K. Udall Foundation Undergraduate Scholarship<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.udall.gov\/OurPrograms\/MKUScholarship\/MKUScholarship.aspx\">Udall Foundation<\/a>  seeks future leaders across a wide spectrum of environmental fields, including policy, engineering, science, education, urban planning and renewal, business, health, justice, and economics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Foundation also seeks future Native American and Alaska Native leaders in public and community health care, tribal government, and public policy affecting Native American communities, including land and resource management, economic development, and education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eighty scholarships of up to $5,000 will be awarded through a national competition after finalists are selected.
