Students who choose this minor will examine systems of inequity and learn about educational advocacy in schools and communities<strong>. <\/strong>Through reflection and community-engaged work, students will develop leadership skills to nurture partnerships with individuals, families, and communities, preparing them to amplify community voice and advocate for social change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why minor in Educational Advocacy &amp; Community Engagement?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Students who minor in Educational Advocacy &amp; Community Engagement are interested in:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Understanding the history of education, education policy, and struggles over issues of equity, including the ways education has been used to perpetuate and\/or dismantle systems of inequity.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Examining power and systems of marginalization that impact communities to understand how educational advocacy can be a powerful means of social change.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Developing leadership skills to work toward social justice.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Academic Connections &amp; Community Engagement Minor&nbsp;courses are restricted to students in SES majors for Registration Period I, but become available to all students from Registration Period II onwards. You can contact the academic advisor for&nbsp;the Educational Advocacy &amp; Community Engagement Minor&nbsp;for assistance with registration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SES Policies &amp; Petitions<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>SES undergraduate academic policies can be found <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uwb.edu\/education\/undergraduate\/policies\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">on the policies page<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SES Major-Minor Credit Overlap Policy<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>No more than 10 credits from any SES major can be applied to a student\u2019s SES minor requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SES Course Petition<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Minors may request that Educational Advocacy &amp; Community Engagement Minor-related courses from UW Bothell or other colleges\/universities that are not on the pre-approved elective lists count toward minor requirements. These requests are considered on a case-by-case basis through the SES Course Petition.
