This minor focuses on the diversity and richness of development in family, peer, school, and community contexts. Students will develop knowledge of human growth and development processes and theories from infancy through adolescence. Students will also develop and deepen skills as change agents to work against inequity in educational and community contexts.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why minor in Child &amp; Youth Development?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Students who minor in Child &amp; Youth Development are interested in:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Understanding human growth and development processes and theories from infancy through adolescence.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Exploring the rich and diverse context of development including family, school, community, culture, and digital media, as well as how individuals frame their own identities in these spaces.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Critically examining systems of marginalization that impact children and youth.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Developing social justice practices to work against inequity in educational and community contexts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Academic Connections &amp; Youth Development Minor&nbsp;courses are restricted to students in SES majors for Registration Period I, but become available to all students from Registration Period II onwards. You can contact the academic advisor for&nbsp;the Child &amp; Youth Development Minor&nbsp;for assistance with registration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SES Policies &amp; Petitions<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>SES undergraduate academic policies can be found <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uwb.edu\/education\/undergraduate\/policies\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">on the policies page<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SES Major-Minor Credit Overlap Policy<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>No more than 10 credits from any SES major can be applied to a student\u2019s SES minor requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">SES Course Petition<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Minors may request that Child &amp; Youth Development Minor-related courses from UW Bothell or other colleges\/universities that are not on the pre-approved elective lists count toward minor requirements. These requests are considered on a case-by-case basis through the SES Course Petition.
