Students must complete the form and provide course information as well as documentation (screenshot, copy of email) of course instructor approval. Requests without instructor approval will not be considered. Students may petition for courses outside of the School of Educational Studies to count towards this requirement. The course content of the petitioned class must directly relate to the M.Ed.\u2019s learning goals, and must be a 400- or 500- level course.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students may search for courses from other UW Bothell departments or other UW campuses (Seattle and Tacoma). It is a student\u2019s responsibility to determine if the course has special registration instructions, restrictions, or requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button is-style-dark-purple-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/forms.office.com\/Pages\/ResponsePage.aspx?id=W9229i_wGkSZoBYqxQYL0lr-N7HMPYJCl0WOShypoLpUQUI5SVAyMjZXTFVSM1RCSU5UNFdXVzRLSCQlQCN0PWcu\">SES Course Petition<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"dossier-petition\">Alternate Quarter Dossier Petition&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-highlight-paragraph\">Petitions are due the Friday of Week 5 during Winter Quarter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CECL &amp; ESOL students may consult with their faculty advisor to discuss completing the Dossier in Spring Quarter, as opposed to Summer Quarter. This decision is based on the individual faculty member\u2019s availability and the student\u2019s ability to secure a second reader.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is important to note that completing the Dossier in Spring will add a significant workload to students who are also finalizing other coursework. Because the Dossier is driven by work completed in courses throughout the program, students will need to complete their final projects in their spring courses in advance, if they plan to use them as artifacts in their dossier. Our grade appeal policy and process supports students in resolving concerns related to course grading. The SES Grade Appeal Policy is aligned with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washington.edu\/admin\/rules\/policies\/SGP\/ScholRegCH110.html#2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">UW Scholastic Regulations Ch. 110 Section 2B<\/a> Written Appeal of Grade Error.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-h-4-font-size\">What is a Grade Appeal?&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A grade appeal is UW\u2019s process for students to dispute a course grade. A grade appeal may be appropriate if the student has evidence (or they believe evidence exists) that:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>They were improperly graded based on criteria outlined in the syllabus<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A grade recording error or omission occurred<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The instructor&#8217;s grading was arbitrary and capricious<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Complaints regarding the issues below have specific protocols which should be followed instead of or in addition to the grade appeal process. The WEST-E Petition allows SES to review teacher candidates\u2019 content knowledge using multiple forms of evidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Petition Timelines<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The WEST-E Petition will be sent out to ESOL students directly via email. WEST-E Petitions are reviewed by SES faculty at the end of Spring Quarter, with decisions sent to students in mid-July.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>M.Ed. alumni who completed their ESOL endorsement coursework at UW Bothell may submit a WEST-E Petition and should plan to follow the petition timeline outlined above.
