If you are a new first-year student, you&#8217;ll learn how to join the Developmental &amp; Youth Studies major once you meet the minimum declaration requirements.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button is-style-dark-gold-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\">Submit a UW Bothell application<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"premajor-doublemajor\">Pre-Major Students &amp; Current Students who Plan to Change Majors<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Check in with your academic advisor to review Elementary Education Option minimum declaration requirements and to develop an academic plan.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Submit online declaration form<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students who meet declaration requirements are admitted to the Elementary Education Option<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button is-style-dark-gold-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/admissions.uwb.edu\/manage\/login?realm=&amp;r=\/register\/SES-MajorDeclarationForm\">declare the elementary education option <\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading returning-student\">Returning Students<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You are considered a returning student if you have not been enrolled for more than one quarter (excluding summer quarter). To begin the returning student process, please email an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uwb.edu\/education\/undergraduate\/advising\">SES advisor<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Submit the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uwb.edu\/admissions\/apply\/other-student-types#returning\">Returning Student Request Form<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wait for form to be processed by the UW Bothell Registrar.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once readmitted to UW Bothell, meet with your <a href=\"\/education\/advising\">SES advisor<\/a> to co-develop an updated academic plan.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"deadlines\">Declaration&nbsp;Deadlines<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-default\">SES welcomes students to the Elementary Education Option throughout the academic year. Students are encouraged to submit their declaration forms when they are ready, and forms will be processed within two weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>New UW Bothell first-year and transfer students should follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uwb.edu\/admissions\/apply\/application-dates-deadlines\">UW Bothell Admissions deadlines<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"resources\">Declaration Information &amp; Resources&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>S\/NS&nbsp;Grades during COVID-19 Pandemic.&nbsp;<\/strong>For quarters designated as having&nbsp;<em>extenuating circumstances<\/em>, SES will consider an S (satisfactory) grade as fulfilling an admission requirements. S grades will not negatively impact your application to the Elementary Education Option.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>WEST-B Resources:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pesb.wa.gov\/preparation-programs\/standards\/assessments\/basic-skills-assessment-west-b\/\">Additional information on WEST-B<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/158WfWE58Jp6nx9L4IoViJ8BiEraYjztnliDKLzB0pCA\/edit\">Online proctoring available<\/a>&nbsp;for WEST-B<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.west.nesinc.com\/TestView.aspx?f=HTML_FRAG\/WA095_PrepMaterials.html\">Free WEST-B practice tests &amp; preparation materials<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"background-checks\">Background Checks<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Students accepted to the Elementary Education Option are legally required to submit their fingerprints to the Washington state&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.k12.wa.us\/\">Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction<\/a>&nbsp;for Washington State Patrol and FBI background checks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Approved background checks are required before a teacher candidate can apply for&nbsp;their Pre-Residency Clearance, a&nbsp;pre-certification legally required for student teaching.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If students have any questions or concerns about fingerprinting or the implications of state and federal background checks, please&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uwb.edu\/education\/undergraduate\/advising\">contact an Educational Studies advisor<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"international-students\">Information for International Students<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Elementary Education Option requires that students complete a student teaching practicum, along with a practicum in an English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classroom OR a practicum in a Special Education classroom. International students with a visa, other than F-1 visa holders, should consult an immigration attorney to determine their eligibility for completing these required practica. F-1 visa holders will need to plan and apply for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uwb.edu\/international-student-services\/f-1-benefits\/practical-training\/curricular-practical-training\">Curricular Practical Training (CPT)<\/a>&nbsp;prior to beginning these required practica.
