As an M.Ed. student, you will be provided with the academic foundations needed for career advancement within educational communities, to take on leadership roles within the profession, and to make significant contributions to the future of children, youth, and families.
Degree Concentrations
Students admitted to the M.Ed. program may choose one of two concentrations.
Critical Educational Change and Leadership
The Critical Educational Change and Leadership (CECL) Masters Degree integrates critical awareness of systemic oppression with liberatory, social-justice practices for educators across sectors. While acknowledging and studying technologies of social inequity like white supremacy, heteropatriarchy, neoliberalism, and coloniality, to name a few, the CECL concentration positions students to work against inequity in all aspects of human life.
This program is well-suited for anyone interested in education as a means of working toward social justice. This may include community-based educators, K-12 educators, cultural workers, and all those interested in raising their consciousness around the relationship between education and social justice.
English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Endorsement
If you are a currently-certified Washington State teacher seeking to add an ESOL Endorsement, this pathway is designed for you. A series of four foundational courses provide K12 teachers with critical inquiry into second language acquisition and bilingual education. Coursework includes curriculum, instruction, and assessment for teaching English to speakers of other languages. Additionally, you will complete an elective of your choice, as well as the M.Ed. professional seminars and completion dossier.
